Chelsea captain John Terry is set to accept a one-year contract extension to keep him at Stamford Bridge beyond the current campaign, as the Mail Online reports.

Terry's current deal worth £150,000-a-week expires in June and Terry looks set to sign on for another season despite preferring to sign a two-year deal.

The 33-year-old Terry has come to accept the terms after he was told that the Chelsea policy is to only offer 12 month deals to players over the age of 30.

Terry has been a Blues stalwart for 16 seasons to date, having come through the Chelsea youth system. The centre-back has retained his place as captain throughout the ten year Roman Abramovich era and has found his performances take a huge upturn since the return of Jose Mourinho as manager last summer.

The former England captain is currently retired from international football, but his supreme performances this term have meant that Terry is being linked with a return to the England fold.

Terry has been ever present for Chelsea in the league and turned up with another superb defensive performance during Monday's 1-0 victory over title rivals Manchester City at the Etihad.

Their victory at the home of the title favourites has drawn Chelsea level on points with City and just two points away from leaders Arsenal.
